Eggshells are unique because, on the one hand, we all know they protect chicks and work as a shield. On the other hand, they provide nutrients to plants. They are used in fish tanks, just like seashells, to make the water less acidic or more alkaline.

The list below shows the use of eggshells in various items that we use:
  1. Birdfeed consists of eggshells
  2. Supplement for pet dogs
  3. To deter pests, lizards & creepy crawlies
  4. Used in arts & crafts projects to paint
  5. Adding in the pet food
  6. Tableware/disposable plates made from Eggshells
  7. Fabric made with chicken eggshells
  8. Pieces of jewellery
  9. Photo frames
  10. Watercolors
  11. Chalks for blackboard
  12. Combs or hairbrushes
  13. Industrial use such as in food production
  14. Used in cosmetics
  15. In the pharmaceutical industry–calcium supplements

Many other items with eggshells as their ingredient are already present in the market. It is their property that makes them helpful for us.

Uses of eggshells in our daily lives

Utilising eggshells to their full potential is yet to be discovered. In our battle against climate change, we need to create more sustainable products. An eggshell is one of the few raw materials that help us in our battle. It may be useless to some, but in the context of business and profitability, it is seen differently.

Just as in the case of plastic waste, we have seen abundant availability. This opportunity is quite clear. It is helping the environment already. However, the impact may not be vastly publicised.

Similarities between eggshells and seashells

Eggshells have calcium carbonate magnesium. Seashells have Magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate, and Oxocalcium (CaO).

The Compounds in each shell differ, based on the creature it comes from. Seashells from hermit crabs may be different from an oyster shell. Similarly, the eggshell of a chicken may have separate properties compared to the Ostrich egg or a Quail egg.

Eggshells have high potential in making valuable products

Despite having a limited amount of one compound that dominates, it could prove to be an excellent ingredient for sustainable products overall. By adding this property to your own sustainable or recycled products, you can do wonders.

A gold nugget for the business community

Only if you can utilise it can you make a lot of difference. This difference may not be just financial but also a means for the betterment of our environment. To give you a glimpse, imagine a chalk made with limestone and one made with eggshells.

Chalk made with eggshells vs Traditional chalk

In the past, an experiment with traditional chalk and one made with eggshell couldn’t succeed, but in recent years, people have done it. However, a moment of knowledge revealed that chalk made with eggshells wasn’t easy to rub off–proving its long-lasting quality. The traditional chalk was easy to rub off. A definite purpose-driven use makes a lot of sense. We live in a profit-driven world, knowing that almost any product could be made to last a long time. However, we need the money to circulate from our hands to the sellers, and so on.

We also came across other science groups that have considered experimenting on the same topic. The name given here is “Eggshalk”.

However, we will know what lies ahead as time passes, discovering more ways to reuse eggshells and recycle them.

A question that compels us to imagine

Are we going to be able to see more discoveries made out of these eggshells?

Many of us will understand the actual light-bulb moments. We hope those moments can lead to using one of the most unused items, such as these eggshells, soon.
